EAST HANOVER, NJ- Hanover Park's football team had a successful season with a record of 8-3 on their run to the North Jersey Section 2 Group 2 finals against rival Madison. The final was a barn burner and a game that will be talked about for many years.
Head Coach, Gerry Moore's team scored 329 points during the season with a fast pace offense that wore down the opposing teams. Coach Moore relied heavily on the leadership of his three senior co-captains, QB Donato Casolaro, RB/LB Rory DeLuca and TE/DE Eric Magnifico to fire up the team before each game.
The Hornets scored over 30 points six times over the course of the season as Casolaro rushed for 680 yards and 10 TDs and threw for almost 1,800 yards and 20 TDs. DeLuca rushed for 937 yards and 14 TDs and caught 31 passes. Magnifico caught 48 passes for 250 yards and recorded 40 tackles and a safety, while being double teamed almost every play.
Senior LB, Eddie Schimminger, and WR/DB, Jimmy Fortier, also made huge contributions as Schimminger led the defense with 144 tackles, one fumble recovery and one INT. Fortier caught 32 passes for 660 yards and six TDs and anchored the defensive backfield with six INTs. Junior WR, Michal Radomski, was another of Casolaro's targets as he hauled in 31 passes for 430 yards and six TDs. He also was 39 of 42 on extra point tries.
The upcoming season will be an interesting one when Moore’s team opens up their season in September.
