Mikie Sherrill, Stuck in a Hovering Pattern.
In 2018, Mikie Sherrill flew into the 11th District with a tailwind of money and supporters. She spoke like a moderate who was going to be a middle of the road operative inside the halls of Congress. That lasted about a month after delivering on a campaign promise with a no vote for the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. She quickly, and every day since, has resigned herself to the Speaker’s wishes. From a moderate’s perspective radical Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib from Michigan has a better voting record than Congresswoman Sherill, as Sherrill has decided to align herself with AOC and Nancy Pelosi. That is not representative of the hard-working families and constituents of the 11th District.
I want to believe that this is not who Ms. Sherrill really is nor what she really believes. I feel like it’s a bad scene from Top Gun, “engage Mikie, engage,” but unlike Maverick who gets back in the fight, Mikie Sherrill has chosen the interests of party over people.
Sometimes being a leader takes courage. The courage to go off script, to stand up and talk from your heart. When Congresswoman Sherrill had an opportunity to do just that, to open her heart to Gulf War veterans and Gold Star parents upon the death of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani that justice had been served, she equivocated. Instead, she provided a statement devoid of emotion, a pablum bio of the bad deeds by this evil man and then quickly reverted to Nancy Pelosi’s talking points questioning President Trump’s foreign policy and strategy in the Middle East. I don’t think you need to be a member of the Foreign Affairs Council to understand the President’s strategy in the Middle East. When the citizens of both Iraq and Iran celebrated Soleimani’s demise more than our Representatives in Congress, it says much about how partisan and petty politics has become. At that moment it would have been nice to see a glimpse of that moderate voice we so much expected.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet Congresswoman Sherill on a few occasions and by my own account she is an engaging individual, with a sense of humor. Something I truly appreciate. As a veteran I appreciate and respect that she has answered the call to serve. There is no doubt that she has an impressive record of service and resume. Unfortunately, that might get you the job, but it doesn’t keep you in the job. Congresswoman Sherrill, being a former Naval Officer, knows more than most that she is responsible for everything she does or fails to do… Congresswoman Sherrill has failed in her mission to represent the people of the 11th. It is time for Mikie Sherril to be relieved of her command. It is time for Mikie Sherrill to be grounded.
I have done my due diligence and encourage you to do the same.I have cast my ballot for Rosemary Becchi for Congress as I believe she will best represent the values and interest of Morris County and the entire 11th District.
