The Art of the Hudson River School

The Livingston Library is presenting an art lecture called “The Art of the Hudson River School” on Monday January 27 starting at 7 pm.

The Hudson River School was the first true art movement in America. Originally inspired by the magnificent landscapes that artists found in the Hudson Valley, it then spread far beyond, into the American wilderness and even to other continents. This movement was important not only artistically but was also influential to Western expansion and the early conservation movement. This lecture explores the origin and leaders of the movement and looks at many of the most important works.

The speaker is Suzanne Altman, an art educator and art historian who has presented art and art history programs throughout Rockland, Bergen and Westchester counties, for both adult and teenage audiences. She is also a painter who works out of her studio in Ossining, NY and exhibits frequently.

The lecture is free and open to all.
