EAST HANOVER, N.J.- When it came time for a service project for the students in Hanover Park's Freshman Semiar classes, Mr. Ott and Mr. DiBona joined forces to make children in the hospital and in foster care smile.

A two dollar donation from every student, the opportunity to share resources from the Family and Consumer Science Department and a little creativity came together to make "Huggy Buddy Bears." Nicole Ferreria and Laurie Vuong, from Mr. Otts class explained that the bears were hand sewn and stuffed. "They come packaged with a greeting card  and a fun coloring book".

The bears took about a week to make. Justin Tuli and Frank Lukasiewicz, from Mr. DiBona's class explained that every student found pictures they liked and added details using Microsoft publishing tools to create coloring books with inspirational messages. "We added our own captions to the pictures," Lukasiewicz said.

Ott reached out to the Essex County division of Child Protection and Permanency  and had the bears delivered Christmas week. Another shipment of bears was delivered to Morristown Medical Center to brighten up the days of children admitted during the holidays. Both Ott and DiBona's Freshman Seminar classes have participated in this and similar service projects for many years.
