PARSIPPANY, NJ - The Morris County Prosecutors Arson and CSI are on the scene as there is one person who was dead on arrival located in the apartment building.  There is an active investigation on the underway.  

The fire started earlier today in a two story garden-style apartment building at 162 Rutgers Lane in Parsippany.  The ceiling had collapsed on the first floor.

District 5 and Whippany Rescue are also both on the scene and are checking for extension.  There are heavy smoke conditions.

** Update from the Parsippany Police:**

At approximately 12:34 PM the Deputy Chief of Parsippany District #5 Fire Department was in the Rutgers Village Apartment complex and observed an active fire. He immediately contacted the Morris County Communications Center via radio. Multiple area fire departments were dispatched to the scene, along with EMS.
We can confirm that a deceased person was located inside one of the affected apartments.
Two apartments were heavily damaged during the fire and the Red Cross is on scene providing assistance.
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Parsippany Fire Investigator Patrolman D. Cavaliere and Parsippany Detective A. Morelli are currently investigating the fire.
