EAST ORANGE, NJ - The boys’ track and field program at East Orange Campus High School appears to be headed in the right direction under first-year head coach Lance Wigfall.
The team competed at the Essex County Relays over the weekend and finished second place in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 32.2. The outstanding time qualifies the team of Freshman Cory Poole, Junior Tyraiq Beals, and Seniors Joseph Taylor-Amica and Haji Davis for the New Balance High School National Track and Field Champions which will be held at the New York Armory in March.
Wigfall who is very pleased with the team’s performance did not hesitate to point out that the Jaguars did not score a single point last year and exited the competition with their heads down. “We have assembled a new coaching staff with a different philosophy and the young men are responding very well. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I am extremely proud of my team. The goal this year was to perform better than last year and we scored 23 points, which was good enough to position us in the fifth-place spot.“ said Wigfall.
