NEWARK, NJ - The Essex Pregnancy and Parenting Connection/Project LAUNCH will be hosting a Breastfeeding Symposium on Wednesday October 15, 2014 in Newark NJ. The event will be from 9:00 am -3:45 pm at the Crystal Ballroom at the Robert Treat Hotel.
More Than Just “Baby-Friendly” will address breastfeeding’s role as a protective factor in infant mental health, the role that culture plays in breastfeeding, for both mothers and health care workers, and the importance of building a community around breastfeeding mothers to address ongoing breastfeeding disparities in Essex County and around the state.
The target audience includes: The staff of the Essex County maternity care hospitals including nurses, physicians and social workers; Essex County community based organizations; DCP&P staff; Essex County Family Success Centers; Evidence-based home visitation programs; Faith based organizations; Childcare providers and infant toddler specialists; Essex County pediatricians and family physicians; Affiliated maternal/infant/pediatric health care providers such as doulas, child birth educators and lactation consultants; Infant mental health specialists candidates for the NJ AIMH endorsement; Community re-development programs that focus on toxic stress strategies and anti-poverty initiatives; Essex County WIC staff and WIC breastfeeding peer counselors; IPO Community Health Workers, Grandparents, parents and other community members.
