EAST ORANGE, NJ - According to the State of New Jersey Department of Health, Essex County overwhelmingly accounts for the largest percentage of active HIV/AIDS cases in the state.
African Americans are disproportionately impacted with as many as 1 in 62 living with HIV/AIDS as opposed to 1 in 701 among Non-Hispanic Whites. These alarming statistic are of major concern to a city that is 94% minority population.
The Department of Health and Human Services will provide free confidential testing, information sessions, and literature, along with refreshments and giveaways, for National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Tuesday, March 10, 2015 9:00am – 7:00pm at the East Orange Department of Health and Human Services 143 New St, 2nd Fl.
