City of Orange Township Receives "Summer Champion" Award from the USDA

ORANGE, NJ - On Thursday, July 13th, The City of Orange Township will receive the "Summer Champion Award" from the United States Department of Agriculture for providing children in need with nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session.

The USDA Summer Champion Award recognizes outstanding Summer Food Service Programs for their hard work and commitment to feeding children during the summer months. The City of Orange Township is one of three award recipients that was recognized for its program during the summer of 2016.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that low-income children receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. This summer, USDA plans to serve more than 200 million free meals to children 18 years and under at approved SFSP sites.

"Wendy Sykes, the sponsor representative for the City of Orange, has worked hard to improve the meal quality for the children in the City of Orange. Wendy is very committed and responsive to the program", New Jersey Department of Agriculture Nutrition Program Specialist Vanessa Ho said.

"Ms. Sykes' dedication to the well being of the children of Orange reflects the  commitment our employees bring to their jobs everyday", Mayor Dwayne D. Warren, Esq. said.
