EAST ORANGE, NJ - Poofs of green, yellow, red and purple filled the sky during the first  ever 'Color Run Community Event' hosted by the Gordon Parks Academy PTO and the Character Counts Committee on June 7th.

Almost 80 participants including students, parents and teachers joined in on the fun bringing the community together to celebrate togetherness, exercise and laughter. School teacher Mr. Lawrence kicked the event off with a stretching session, teaching everyone how warming up is important. Two teams then ran around the track at Oval Park and were hit with color by all of the adults that were present.

The event ended with a delicious Walking Taco treat. The organizer of the event, Literacy Coach and Character Counts Committee member Maria Johnson stressed the Importance of family and how vital it is to work together, as a community, with the common goal of  student success.

Principal Shults, Ms. Distance, Ms. Carter, Mr. Lawrence, Ms. Stock,  Ms. Barnes, Ms. Marques and Ms. Fontanges and the parents helped to make this event a huge success. Pincipal Shults promised next year's Color Run to be even bigger and better.

2nd Annual Love & Not Hate March Today in East Orange

EAST ORANGE, NJ - This morning the Rev. Al Sharpton will join East Orange Mayor Ted Green for their 2nd Annual Love & Not Hate March against gun violence at 8:00 AM. 

The March will begin at Hollywood Ave & Central Avenue in East Orange and will work its way to Oval Park. Once at the park there will be youth activities, vendors, music, school give-a-ways and much more.
