EAST ORANGE, NJ - TAPinto Staff caught up with Mr. Osner Charles, Director of Recreation for the City of East Orange, to discuss the recent book back giveaway held at City Hall.

Mr. Charles and his staff, under the direction of Mayor Lester Taylor (supported by the City Council) held a book giveaway event for East Orange residents last week that drew hundreds of families to 44 City Hall Plaza to receive free book bags, school supplies and hair cuts in anticipation of school opening shortly.

The East Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs was charged with organizing the event; and by all accounts did a great job getting residents to respond.

We asked Charles if he anticipated such a crowd. He replied, “Definitely”. “This was our second year doing this event.  We were ready for the crowd; and ended up giving away more than 1000 book bags and school supplies. It is important that we continue to push the Mayor’s theme of excellence.”

Charles and his team are not resting on past successes.  The Department is setting their sites on the Mayor’s Cookout Saturday August 29th, 2015.  Look out for more information on TAPinto.net regarding this and other City sponsored events.
