EAST ORANGE, NJ -- The East Orange Housing Authority (EOHA) with a mission to “holistically enhance the quality of life through partnerships, social services, and sustainable housing opportunities” offers more than housing. Thinking outside the box to assist residents, EOHA has been nationally recognized for two (2) of their initiatives within the past year for setting industry-standard best practices. One program initiative is their Security Deposit Grant Program which is designed to remove some of the financial barriers for their participants in search of decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing. The other program, their Partner Scholarship Program with Bloomfield College, was developed to address the need to promote and provide access and affordability to qualified and motivated students to pursue a quality college education of all ages.

EOHA recognizes the power of partnership within the community so when the opportunity presented itself to become a sponsor and partner to the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), NJ Chapter that would benefit the youth within the community, there was no hesitation from the EOHA to commit. The NBMBAA, award-winning, Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT®) Program is a network of high school students and professionals working together to guide young people down a path to professional careers and academic success. The LOT® Program is open to 9th-12th grade students who are interested in learning how to improve college acceptance opportunities, develop professionally, improve their leadership skills, explore entrepreneurial and career options and much more. The NBMBAA, NJ Chapter will sponsor the membership of students joining this February 2020, making them official members of a state chapter and national organization. There are also opportunities sponsored by the NBMBAA to travel with the LOT® Business Case Competition Team and to attend the LOT® National Conference.

This partnership also creates an opportunity for two (2) scholarship opportunities. The NBMBAA, NJ Chapter is proud to present scholarship opportunities for students who participate in the LOT® Program through their 12th-grade year. With this partnership, EOHA will also extend its Partner Scholarship Program to students in the 12th grade interested in attending Bloomfield College. To date, Bloomfield College has presented financial awards and provided additional resources to 100% of the applicants accepted through the EOHA Scholarship Program.
