NEWARK, NJ - Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Mohamed Dukereh, 19, of East Orange, following a car crash into a supermarket yesterday.

At approximately 7:19 p.m., members of Newark Firefighters and Police Divisions responded to City Supermarket, located at 525 Irvington Avenue, on a call of a car crash into a building. Firefighters observed a 2006 Nissan, driven by Mohamed Dukereh, that had crashed through the front of the supermarket. 

A second vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was also struck by the Nissan during the collision. The driver of the Toyota and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were both transported to University Hospital for treatment and released. No other injuries were reported. Customers and employees of the supermarket were evacuated and engineers have determined the building structurally sound.

Police arrested Dukereh (no photo available) at the scene. He is charged with being an unlicensed driver. 

This charge is merely an accusation. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
