EAST ORANGE, NJ - During the early-morning hours of April 2, the East Orange Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force executed two simultaneous search warrants in the multileveled apartment building a 25 South Munn Ave. which yielded the arrest of five individuals and led to the discovery of large quantities of controlled dangerous substances, firearms and cash.

The police action was conducted as part of an ongoing public safety investigation into the illegal distribution of controlled dangerous substances and prescription legend drugs as well as the trafficking of firearms by members of the affiliates of the Double II set of the Bloods street gang.

“I would like to commend the men and women of this department for their excellent work as part of this investigation,” said Police Chief William C. Robinson. “East Orange has seen an unprecedented drop in crime in recent years due to the dedication of our officers to keeping dangerous drugs and guns out of our community. Today is an important victory in our efforts to continue providing a safe environment for our city’s families.”

More than one hundred and fifty grams of marijuana, several bottles of oxycodone, a small amount of heroin and nine thousand dollars in U.S. currency were recovered at the scene.  Additionally, two 9mm handguns, one modified M1 assault rifle with a “drum” large capacity magazine and over sixty live rounds of handgun and rifle ammunition were also recovered.

Arrested were Ronnie Smith, 42; Aquil Logan, 27; Kevin Pugh, 32; Julissa Pugh, 25; and Kirk Pugh, 49; all residents of East Orange. The individuals have been charged with possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of CDS with intent to distribute near school property and possession of prescription legend drugs. All individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
