EAST ORANGE, NJ - The City of East Orange will be hosting its Summer Food Kick-Off on June 9 at Rowley Park from 2:30pm-7pm. There will be food, music and parents will be able to register children for one of the city’s six summer camps. First 200 attendees will receive a free T-shirt!
Under the direction of the Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs, the city’s newly-expanded USDA award-winning Summer Food Program will run from June 26, 2017-August 31, 2017, operating at 45 East Orange area sites and serving over 5,000 meals daily.
New this year, some sites will serve a snack at 2pm and dinner at 5pm, including Oval Park, Elmwood Park, Memorial Park, Soverel Park, Rowley Park, Ampere Circle and Essex County Parks Watsessing and Westside.
The Summer Food Service Program is a federal program of the Food and Nutrition Services, United States Department of Agriculture. This program provides all children 18 years of age and under with the same free meal in accordance with a menu approved by the state agency.
