Five victims shot at Bloomfield Sports Bar

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Five people were injured during a shooting that occurred approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday at Bloomfield’s Sports in the City Food & Lounge on the corner of First Avenue and 13th Street.

According to Bloomfield Police Director Sam DeMaio, the police department is still in the very early stages of analyzing the crime scene. “Based on ballistic evidence there appears to be more than one shooter,” he said. “We are still reviewing the video at the location,” DeMaio added.  

At the time of the shooting there were about 30 to 40 people inside the bar stated the police director. “The shooters were outside and fired shots through the door and the window shattering the glass,” said DeMaio.

The five victims hail from Newark, Irvington and East Orange. “Everyone is in stable condition,” said DeMaio.

The Bloomfield Police Department will be working with their police departments on this case according to DeMaio. “[Bloomfield police] is working in conjunction with Newark, Irvington and East Orange police on the investigation as well,” he said.

Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia provided a statement to TAPinto in response to the shooting.

“The Bloomfield Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred last night at a bar located at First Avenue and 13th Street in conjunction with the Newark Police Department. While five people were injured, thankfully no one was killed and none of the injuries currently appear to be life threatening. Our police department is devoting significant resources to identifying and apprehending the alleged shooter. We ask that anyone with any information please contact the Bloomfield Police at 973-680-4141. Keeping every neighborhood in Bloomfield safe is our highest priority and this disturbing incident should be a reminder of how important that mission is. I have every confidence that our excellent police department and law enforcement partners will do everything necessary to bring the perpetrator to justice.”

“The Essex County Sheriff's Office Crime-Stoppers Program is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information should call the Bloomfield Police Department,” stated DeMaio.
