EAST ORANGE, NJ - As part of the National Farmers Market week, East Orange has planned a celebration on Tuesday, August 7th from 12pm – 8pm. This event will coincide with National Night-Out.
The activities planned for “I Love East Orange Farmer’s Market” celebration, will include cooking demonstrations, tastings, educational events, guest chefs, a public safety cook-off, local celebrity and politician appearances. Mayor Green will deliver a proclamation at 2pm. The City has invited some partners to come celebrate, including the East Orange Health Department, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Program; Independence: Family Success Center, SNAP ED, EO YMCA and others.
National Farmers Market Week (NFMW) is an annual celebration sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that highlights the important role farmers markets play in the nation’s food system. Now in its 19th season, NFMW always lands on the first full week of August, with this year’s celebration running August 5-11th, 2018.
NFMW allows the East Orange Farmer’s Market to take center stage on a national level, and is an important opportunity to showcase the impacts of markets to customers, communities, local officials, and legislators.
The East Orange Farmer’s Market benefits our community in many ways! It stimulates the local economy, increase access to fresh, healthy food, and promotes sustainability. NFMW provides an important opportunity to promote these benefits, and to encourage East Orange residents to support its’ local market.
