(NEW JERSEY) -  New Jersey residents with developmental disabilities and their families and caregivers, are being asked to provide input into ways to make the state’s service system more effective.

The New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities (NJCDD) is developing a 5-Year State Plan that reflects a comprehensive review of major service systems and issues as they affect New Jersey children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families. The plan will consider issues such as housing, employment, health care, education, transition, arts and recreation, transportation, childcare, family support and more. This plan outlines goals and activities that the NJCDD will implement in order to bring about system change, and drives decisions about how staff and funding are used.

In order to develop a plan that is responsive to the needs of New Jersey citizens, NJCDD is seeking input from individuals with I/DD, families, caregivers, service providers and other stakeholders about what is working for people with developmental disabilities; what needs to change; and, how it could be changed. New Jersey residents can provide confidential input through public hearings, an online survey, a letter, a phone call and even social media, using the hashtag #NJCDDListens. Every person’s voice is important and is urged.
