Keeping a gratitude journal is one of the best ways to cultivate a positive and abundant mindset. Instead of focusing on what you DON’T have in a gratitude journal, you will be writing about all the wonderful things you DO have. 

Studies have shown the benefits of journaling in relation to mental and physical health. It boosts mood and relieves stress. It teaches those who keep a journal to be more mindful and live in the present more, not just the past or the future.

Gratitude journaling is actually very low cost and fairly easy once you get organized. You need a pen or pencil and paper of some sort to get started. Some people might opt for a few other items to make their gratitude journal special.

Pen or Pencil

Some people prefer a pencil because they can erase writing. You could also get a pen with erasable ink.

Paper

Most people will buy a journal especially for this purpose. It doesn’t have to be expensive. However, it does have to be small enough to be carried around easily so you can write in it whenever you wish. 

A Computer

Some people like to keep their journal on their computer. If using a laptop or tablet, they can add to it at any time. 

Colored Pens, Pencils and Crayons

Some people who are very artistic enjoy drawing or decorating their gratitude journal. 

Stickers

Stickers are a fun way to make your journal attractive and unique. It also helps you to decorate it even if you are not very good at drawing.

Photos

Some people like to put photos in their gratitude journal and then write about why they are grateful for what is being shown in the photo.

Blogging

Some people like to blog about their thoughts and emotions. Blogging about the things you are grateful for can be an emotionally healthy experience. You can also share your blog with friends and loved ones to show how much you value your lives together.

Taking Time

Once you have all your tools organized, it is time to make time to write your journal every day. Some people do it twice a day - once in the morning and once at night. The morning session sets up a positive energy for the day. The evening session can help you relax and unwind.

Being Consistent

Writing a little every day is always better than writing a lot once a week. Being consistent helps maintain an attitude of gratitude even when things get tough.

There are no right or wrong ways to keep a gratitude journal. Everyone's choices will be different. However, it is important that you are committed to the process and the outcome: that of enjoying a more positive life and seeing all the abundance in it.
