EAST ORANGE, NJ - Mayor Lester Taylor and his administration have been highly touted for their ability to attract major housing developers to the city. In less than four years, the Taylor team has brought over 400 million dollars in investment to the town; mostly through large scale development; however, the city hasn’t forgotten its less affluent residents in the process.
The city has quietly been working to construct new affordable housing in the 4th ward on Eaton Place. For decades this 4th ward area has been overlooked when it comes to progressive development. Locally, it had been thought the area would never rise from its depressed state. But with the assistance of the city’s Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) partner LaCasa de Don Pedro, four (4) new single family homes are being constructed in this difficult neighborhood.
Since 1988, La Casa de Don Pedro has built and sold more than 150 units of quality affordable homes which has provided homeownership and rental income opportunities for more than 100 families. La Casa is in the final stages of construction of four quality, affordable town homes located on Eaton Place.
