MONTCLAIR, NJ - Lt. Wilhelm Young of the Montclair Police Department was given a Community Service Award on Saturday during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. breakfast held by Omega Psi Pi Fraternity, Inc. Eta Pi Chapter of Montclair.
The 28th annual breakfast was held at St. Paul's Church of Montclair.
Fourth Ward Councilor Dr. Renee Baskerville expressed praise for the character and commitment to service of the hosts of the annual event. She also stated that she felt Lt. Young was very deserving of the honor.
She stated, "...the thing that I like most is that they are just a great group of gentlemen..... men of calm demeanor, strong preserve, intellectual thinking, polite yet meaningful...courteous and honorable men. ......leaders in our community who are always willing to lend a helping hand."
Attendees were serenaded in song from the Montclair High School Madrigal Chorus directed by Boyce Ennis. Several Montclair Police Officers also attended the breakfast to support their fellow officer Lt. Young.
The Honorable Victoria Pratt, Chief Judge for the Newark Municipal Court, gave the keynote address and inspired guests with her motivational message of peace and service.
