(EAST ORANGE, NJ) - Monday, May 25, 2020, Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange City Council under the leadership of Council Chair, Christopher James held an abbreviated Memorial Day celebration.

On a day the City is usually bustling with politicians, students, community activist, and most importantly, veterans throwing candy from fancy floats and cars while dancing across the grandstand, the City continued the Memorial Day tradition by instead hosting a social distancing program honoring fallen soldiers.

The weather was as beautiful as it has been in the past, while Commander Ronald Riddick read off the list of names of those we remember, including the Grand Marshal Thomas H. Cooke, Jr., former Mayor of East Orange, who was honored posthumously during the virtual ceremony for his service in the military. The family of former Mayor Thomas H. Cooke, Jr. received the award in his honor.
