Montclair Police Search for Hatchet-Wielding Robbery Suspect

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Police Officers are searching for a suspect who robbed Cafe Clair brandishing a hatchet on Tuesday around 8:03 PM. 

Officers responded to the scene of 'Cafe Clair' located at 121 Watchung Ave. on a report of a robbery.

Witnesses explained to responding officers that the suspect entered the store, brandishing a hatchet and demanded money from the register.  "He then told the store employee to lay flat on the floor," said Lt. David O'Dowd in a release.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot.  The female employee was alone in the store at the time of the incident. 

The suspect was described as wearing a black coat with a black hood over his head, dark green/grey pants, white gloves, black boots, and a black face mask.  He was also described as being medium to heavy build and approximately 5’8” in height. 

There were no reported injuries. The total amount of proceeds are unknown at this time.
