One East Orange Youth Killed, Another Injured in Double Shooting

NEWARK, NJ – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and East Orange Police Chief William O. Robinson announced today that the East Orange Police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a double shooting.

Shortly after 11 p.m. yesterday East Orange Police discovered two males in a vehicle on Mountainview Avenue. Both the driver and the passenger had been shot. The driver was taken to University Hospital. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 17 year old Tyjid Campbell of East Orange. The driver is not being identified at this time.  

So far, no arrests have been made. The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force tips line at 1-877-847-7432 or 1-877-TIP-4-EC.
