EAST ORANGE, NJ – The distinguished Rev. Jerry M. Carter, Jr., Ph.D., senior pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown, New Jersey, will be the guest revivalist for New Hope Baptist Church of East Orange’s Annual Fall Revival during a three-night celebration.
Services will be held from Monday, September 18 to Wednesday, September 20 at 7 p.m. nightly.
As a speaker and author, Rev. Carter has been a lecturer at Hampton University Ministries’ Conference, a national event - hosted annually - designed to provide a setting to academically stimulate and spiritually enrich ministers. It is the world’s largest gathering of interdenominational African-American clergy, according to Hampton University. Additionally, he has inspired others through his published works in the New Interpreters Handbook of Preaching, Oxford Sermons Volume III, Evangelizing the Black Male in the 21st Century and the African American Pulpit.
Rev. Carter currently serves on various community and clergy boards and served as an adjunct professor of preaching at Drew Theological School and an instructor of homiletics at Princeton Theological Seminary’s Summer Institute. Rev. Carter received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Denison University in Granville, Ohio and completed the Master of Divinity degree at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. Continuing his education, he earned a Ph.D. in liturgical studies with special emphasis on homiletics from Drew University.
He has been the guest preacher for the church’s revival for several times. “Our members and visitors have been tremendously blessed to have such a celebrated speaker as Rev. Carter over the years. His amazing articulation of biblical messages with an element of humor will be an enlightening and inspiring experience for all of those who attend,” said Rev. Dwight D. Gill, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of East Orange.
Revival is an opportunity for Christians to revitalize their spiritual beliefs in the gospel and renew their support of the church. “This event brings our community together in our common faith and reminds us of our commitment to discipleship. We believe the gospel is not simply a set of facts, but a way of life,” explained Rev. Gill.
Everyone is welcome to attend the celebration. New Hope Baptist Church of East Orange is located at 144 Norman Street in East Orange. For more information, please call the church office at (973) 678-6710.
