EAST ORANGE, NJ – Rev. Dr. Marvin A. McMickle, president of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School and distinguished novelist, will present a lecture on “Deacons in Today’s Black Baptist Church,” based on his latest book which covers the same topic.

The event is scheduled for Friday, December 8 at the church, which is located at 144 Norman Street in East Orange. The cost is $15.00 per person and includes lunch at 12:00 p.m. and the lecture, which starts at 2:00 p.m. A book signing will follow the lecture.

During the program, Rev. Dr. Mickle will discuss the scriptural basis and historical context for the deacon ministry in the black Baptist church, and address the practical issues related to this ministry today. “I actually cannot think of a more appropriate discussion as the role of deacons has dramatically changed over the years.” “With his experience both as a longtime pastor and an esteemed professor, Rev. Dr. McMickle brings a unique perspective on the emergence of a new generation of African-American officers’ role in addressing various complex issues in today’s churches,” said Rev. Dwight D. Gill, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of East Orange.
