WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Rho Gamma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will partner with the New Jersey affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness to do a presentation titled “In Our Own Voices” which explores the personal journeys of those living with a mental illness. The program will also include an interactive activity aimed at identifying and debunking some of the myths associated with mental illness.
The program takes place on April 28, 2018 from 10am-12pm at the West Orange Public Library on Mt. Pleasant Ave. This event is free and open to all.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1908. Rho Gamma Omega Chapter is celebrating thirty years of committed service to the Oranges and Maplewood. NAMI New Jersey (NAMI NJ) is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. Through education, support, advocacy and public awareness programs NAMI NJ fosters understanding about mental illness, confronts stigma often associated with mental disorders, advocates for public policies that benefit those affected by mental illness, and promotes research into the causes, treatment and recovery of mental health disorders.
