NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Fans going to Scarlet Knights football games will find a long list of ways to improve their game day this year, from the convenience of digital tickets, to opportunities for sideline passes to bottomless popcorn buckets, or maybe a healthier BBQ chicken and mushroom sandwich.
Rutgers University will let fans receive the tickets in advance electronically and print them at home before a game, or have the tickets on an Apple wallet or watch. People will receive notifications when they are close to the stadium, asking if they would like to have their ticket on their mobile device.
Season ticket holders will be allowed to transfer their tickets to friends and family at no cost because transfer fees are be waived for this year.
For the 2018 season, Rutgers has partnered with StubHub, so that people can post their Scarlet Knight tickets from their online account to Stubhub, which will provide interactive seating maps and pricing assistance data for buyers.
Another program launched this season is called "Scarlet Memories," which will allow all fans to use mobile devises to purchase extras features such as game day stadium tours, fourth-quarter sideline passes, behind-the-scenes access, and mascot seat visits, among other offers. All season ticket holders will receive free credits in their account based on priority points.
Food trucks and vendors will line Scarlet Knight Way leading to the stadium, the @RUAthletics Twitter accounts will provide enhanced in-game coverage, and the RU band has been expanded will add a new segment highlighting Rutgers history.
Each of the six home games will have a theme, including the Military Appreciation Day for the Nov. 10 game against Michigan.
Rutgers will also have a pre-game Brewfest prior to the Sept. 29 Indiana game. People can purchase access to a beer festival and a ticket to the game for $50.
Horizon Blue Cross - Blue Shield, the state's largest health insurance firm, will have a fan corner at the stadium at every game, focusing on health and wellness
Among the food selections fans can make between the quarters of the game and at half time will be items from Raw Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae Bar, Walkin Taco's-Tostito Tortilla Chips and Boneless Buffalo or General Tso's Chicken Nuggets. The “Horizon Healthy Huddle” stand will offer BBQ chicken and portobello mushroom sandwiches.
For safety purposes, the stadium will offer parents wrist bands that can be put on children with personal information in case a child gets lost. Also, a special Lyft pick-up and drop-off locations with be designed for ride share services.
