Shawn Hunter, a candidate for Mayor of Orange, New Jersey
Shawn D. Hunter is a product of Essex County. She has attended Bloomfield College, Lincoln University, and is now perusing a law degree at Taft University.
A financial expert, she is the founder of HBS Asset Company Enterprise with 30 years’ experience. She worked for several years in Orange’s finance department.
A community activist, serving as Vice-Chair of Orange Democratic Committee. Shawn has served on several boards including Orange Library and East Orange Foundation. She is a recipient of the Giblin community service award from Giblin Association directed by Assemblyman Thomas P. Giblin. Also, she earned the Shirley Chisholm community service award from New Jersey Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver.
A proud mother of three daughters and two grandchildren makes education and recreation a top priority.
As a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church in East Orange, she volunteers to feed the less fortunate during Orange Fire Department's annual Thanksgiving event, among her many community outreach projects. She is a passionate advocate and volunteers for re-entry programs for ex-cons.
Shawn Hunter loves working in the community to present a strong voice for the people. She is running for Mayor because of her desire to see Orange, NJ, as a thriving community once again. Combining her experience in finance and volunteerism, she will create plans for senior citizens and recreation. Her other goals as Mayor include stabilized property taxes, decreasing foreclosures, and ending corruption in our Orange.
