ESSEX COUNTY, NJ - Essex County Sheriff Amando Fontoura was sworn in on Jan. 4, to a new three-year term. Sheriff Fontoura was re-elected in November, and is the longest tenured sheriff in Essex County history and is the dean of all active New Jersey sheriffs. Fontoura has been Essex County sheriff since 1990.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Veterans Courthouse, with Essex Vicinage Assignment Judge Sallyanne Floria administering the Oath of Office to Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura. The sheriff’s grandson, David Fontoura, held the Bible.

Fontoura is a graduate of the F. B. I.’s National Academy and the F. B. I.’s National Executive Institute, and was previously a member of the Newark Police Department.
