ORANGE, NJ - Members of all ages prepared and served full-course meals for area residents in need. On Saturday, October 8, members of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange delivered and served a nutritious hot meal to clients of the soup kitchen at the Church of the Epiphany in neighboring Orange.
Approximately 100 adults and children came to enjoy a hot and bountiful lunch provided by TSTI’s Second Saturday Soup Kitchen volunteers. Once a month, congregants and friends host TSTI’s Second Saturday Soup Kitchen at the church for residents of Orange and East Orange who are dealing with food insecurity.
Volunteers from South Orange, West Orange, Maplewood, Short Hills, Springfield, Morristown and Basking Ridge participated. TSTI’s Second Saturday Soup Kitchen program is one of many ways that members of the Reform synagogue uphold the Jewish tradition of helping others and bringing more justice to the world. TSTI is also one of four Essex County houses of worship that support the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges, also located at the church.
