EAST ORANGE, NJ - This Saturday, October 15th on 4th Avenue in East Orange, Sierra House and the Ampere Civic Improvement Association are hosting the 1st Annual Greenwood Community Street Festival. This event promises be an exciting opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy music, learn about gardening, engage in activities for the kids, shop, get information from local nonprofits, and meet local business owners.

The goal of the festival is to empower residents to become more involved in their community. Keely Freeman, Sierra House’s Executive Director, remarks, “By bringing residents together, we hope to raise public awareness and to empower not only residents, but also business owners and other stakeholders to participate in the Greenwood Neighborhood planning process.”

During the festival, Sierra House will conduct a survey to get basic information about the community, such as its needs, demographics, etc. This data will be used to create a resident-driven Greenwood Neighborhood Plan for the purpose of developing a guide for making future community development decisions related to housing, education, public safety, jobs, economic development, and more. Sierra House encourages all residents to come out, enjoy the activities, complete the surveys, and participate in the neighborhood’s planning efforts.
