Unveiling of new commercially available 10 gigabit fixed wireless connection – the fastest in the region – marks start of citywide celebration of Brick City start-ups, entrepreneurs, and innovators
NEWARK, NJ – C&K Properties, Newark CEDC President Aisha Glover, =SPACE Founder Medina, and Chief Information Officer Seth Wainer gathered to launch the second annual Newark Tech Summit, a celebration of the entrepreneurs, non-profits, and influencers contributing to Newark’s blossoming technology scene. As part of the celebration, the collective unveiled a new 10 gigabit fixed wireless internet connection, the region’s fastest available internet, offered through the Newark Fiber program.
2 Gateway, C&K Properties’ Class A office building in the heart of downtown Newark will be the first building in the city to utilize the 10 gigabit fixed wireless technology, which is offered through Newark Fiber and its network operator, GigXero. Last year, 2 Gateway became the charter member of Newark Fiber, which taps into Newark’s world-class fiber optic infrastructure to offer ultra-fast internet speeds at a fraction of the cost of similar commercially available fiber connections.
The new 10 gigabit connection – delivered through a millimeter wave radio link that delivers high-speed, low-latency, full-duplex wireless data connectivity – utilizes technology provided by Vubiq Networks, a leading innovator in millimeter wave wireless broadband. Through the new technology, commercial tenants at 2 Gateway will have the ability to purchase affordable access to a wireless connection offering speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second.
“As the Tech Summit shows, Newark is home to many of the companies that will help to shape the future not just of New Jersey, but the world,” said Kevin Collins, managing director at C&K Properties. “At 2 Gateway, we’ve long employed a philosophy of staying ahead of the curve when it comes to the technological needs of these businesses. Outside of a select few major corporate headquarters, 2 Gateway now offers some of the fastest and most reliable internet anywhere in the country – and at a cost that is simply unrivaled.”
The Newark Fiber program, which launched last year, is the result of a public-private partnership among fiber carriers, internet service providers, non-profits, and the city. According to the city, comparable 10 gigabit fiber optic connections are seldom available to commercial tenants outside of major corporate headquarters; Newark Fiber offers connections to individual businesses on an extraordinarily cost-effective basis.
Made possible by tapping into Newark’s fiber backbone, initially installed thanks to the city’s rich history with data and telecomm providers, Newark Fiber offers connections available to businesses, public parks and the city’s streets through wifi. More about the Newark Tech Summit and Newark Tech Week
Following the unveiling of the new 10 gigabit connection, 2 Gateway hosted a gathering of more than two dozen area entrepreneurs at the Second Annual Newark Tech Summit. This year, the Tech Summit also marked the start of Newark Tech Week, a five-day series of networking events, events, conferences and round table discussions focusing on technological innovation in the city.
At this year’s Summit, guests were treated to a panel discussion featuring Google Senior Technical Consultant Isaiah Belle, Automattic (parent company of WordPress) CMO Chris Taylor, and ClaimIt App CEO Ali Abdullah. Additionally, at the Summit, diversity-focused business accelerator The Refinery announced the winners of its Fueling the Growth pitch competition, an event devoted to uncovering the top technology-driven, women-led startups in Newark.
