EAST ORANGE, NJ — For an entire week East Orange celebrated over a dozen of the city’s top restaurants during Restaurant Week 2019. Each day of the week, selected eateries were featured and their individual store visited and promoted by the city and local patrons. However, on Saturday, November 9th, all the participating restaurants came together ‘on one roof’ (literally) to share in the first ever Taste of East Orange.

The event was held on the rooftop of the recently constructed Essence building at 144 South Harrison Street. The Mayor, several members of City Council, city staff, business owners, residents, civic and religious leaders all came to experience the multitude of international taste representing varied countries and regions from all across the globe.

The event was hosted by the East Orange Planning Department under the leadership of Dan Jennings, Director. The event was organized by Planning staffer, Mark Cheatam. In his closing comments to the sold-out delegation he remarked, “In order for our restaurants to succeed we have to support them”. He goes on to say, “I’m asking that you chose East Orange first… This year’s theme, Eat Local may soon expand to Shop Local or Arts Local.”
