WEST ORANGE, NJ - The ladies of Rho Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority are hosting a screening of We Will Rise: Michelle Obama’s Mission to Educate Girls Around the World on Wednesday, May 30th at 7:00 pm at the West Orange Public Library, 46 Mount Pleasant Avenue, West Orange, NJ.   The film takes a journey with global leaders and activists- including former First Lady Michelle Obama, actors Meryl Streep and Freida Pinto, and CNN journalist Isha Sesay to meet a group of girls from Liberia and Morocco who have overcome immense barriers to get an education.

One of the Sorority’s community initiatives is via partnership with Africare, a non-profit organization based in Washington, which provides development aid to many African countries.  Africare has been improving lives and building a better future by focusing on agriculture and food security, healthcare, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, access to potable water, and women's empowerment.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1908. Since then, the sorority has flourished into a globally-impactful organization of nearly 300,000 college trained members, empowered by a commitment to servant leadership that is both domestic and international in its scope. Rho Gamma Omega Chapter is proud to have been serving the community of the Oranges and Maplewood for thirty years.
