If you’ve been feeling as if you are drifting aimlessly in your life or business and spending a lot of time expending a great deal of energy with nothing to show for it, you might be struggling because you haven’t set any priorities in your life.

Wealth

Mention an abundant life to most people and they will think about money and possessions. A good example of setting and sticking to priorities would be with respect to the money you earn and the obligations you need to fulfill. For most smart people, the priorities are:

* Food

* Rent/mortgage

* Utilities

* Transportation costs to and from work

Within each of these, you might have varying priorities. For example, utilities are not fixed costs, but vary from month to month. Electricity, gas and water are all necessary, but if you make energy saving a priority, you will spend less on these and therefore have more money for other things. You might invest in an energy-saver appliance, set your thermostat a couple of degrees cooler, or put a couple of bricks in your toilet tank to cut down on the water used per flush.

If you have to drive to work in order to earn a living, this will be a priority over buying expensive cuts of meat in the supermarket. If you are longing for an abundant life, just consider how well you are living within your means by sorting out your priorities.

If you are fortunate enough to have any money left over at the end of each month, what are your priorities? Do you spend it or save it? Or both? If you spend it, what on?

* Dining out

* Charity donations

* Expensive electronics

If you save it, what are you saving for?

* Retirement

* College funds for the kids

* An emergency fund

All of these examples are legitimate priorities. It is up to you to decide which will be at the top of your list.

Other Important Priorities

There are a number of other important priorities that you need to live in alignment with if you are to have an abundant life.

# Health

Your health should be at the top of your list. If you have good health, you might not have everything in the world that you want from life but you can certainly enjoy what you do have.

# Career and Business

What are your career goals and what steps are you taking to boost productivity and take action to achieve them? The first step in living life according to your priorities is to set them in the first place. Then you can take the steps you need to achieve the goals that are in line with those priorities.

Or, you might long to start your own business and decide to launch one that you can do in your spare time. But what effect will this have on your family and friends?

# Family

A lot of people say that their family is their priority, but this is actually not always the case. In many instances, they pursue their career to such an extent that they neglect their family, and in particular their relationship with their spouse - to the point that the relationship ends up in divorce and a broken home.

From the career person’s point of view, they were most likely working in order to give their family a "better life", not seeing all the abundance that they already had. Or, equating abundance with money and material possessions, instead of quality time together with loved ones.

Setting priorities and sticking to them is one of the most important things you can do in order to live a more abundant life.

Set your priorities and stick to them and you will be amazed at how abundant a life you can live.
