WNBA NY Liberty and Nassan’s Place Together Again Brining Autism Awareness to the Courts

EAST ORANGE, NJ - Who got game? That's the question on the floor as WNBA’s New York Liberty partners with Nassan's Place for a third consecutive year for “Autism Awareness Game Day” at Madison Square Garden.

The New York Liberty take on the Los Angeles Sparks 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017.  It will be a day of autism awareness, sensory-friendly activities for children, plenty of basketball, and fun for the whole family.

This year, Grammy-Award winning, two-time Oscar nominated singer and songwriter, Siedah Garrettt will perform the national anthem at Game Day.  Garrett also wrote a very inspiring song about autism entitled “It’s Time to Listen”

“Lending my time and talent to such a worthy cause and amazing organization is the least I can do to help these unbelievably special children”, Garrett said.  “I am looking forward to Game Day and to having fun with the kids,” she expressed.

About Nassan’s Place

Nadine Wright-Arbubakrr is the President and CEO of Nassan's Place, an East Orange based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization helping to make a difference in the lives of children and families affected by Autism in and around the urban inner cities of New Jersey’s Essex County.

Wright-Arbubakrr started Nassan's Place in 2012 due to the lack of accessible and affordable educational and recreational programs she encountered for her own son, Nassan, who was diagnosed with Autism in 2006 and who the non-profit is named after. For the past five years, Nassan’s Place has been providing educational and recreational programs, social outings, and other resources to children and families affected by Autism.  Its goal is to educate communities about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that affect so many in the urban inner-cities.  New Jersey currently has the highest rate of Autism nationally at a rate of 1 in 41.

"I am honored to partner with the New York Liberty (WNBA) for the third year to bring attention and awareness to Autism”, expressed Wright-Arbubakrr.  “I am even more elated to have Siedah Garrett perform for us this year.  It’s because of partnerships like the one we’ve established with the New York Liberty and Ms. Garrett that Nassan's Place can continue to bring help, hope, opportunity, and acceptance to hundreds of children and families affected by Autism," Arbubakrr continued.

Vice President of Team and Business Development for the New York Liberty Daakeia Clarke stated that she and her team look forward to what has become an annual event with Nassan’s Place.  “It is inspiring to see children from Nassan’s Place attend a Liberty game at The Garden and enjoy such an incredible experience. It is important for the New York Liberty organization to ensure that our games at Madison Square Garden are a place where all kids and families feel welcome, and have the ability to make incredible memories.”
