I would like to share with you just one recent example of the diligence and bravery of our Orange Police Department, whose quick action to make Orange streets safer should be celebrated by our whole community.
On April 25, on the 300 block of Park Ave, Orange Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm and the threatening of bodily harm to a child. Orange police, upon arriving at the scene, identified and arrested a 26-year-old male after a brief foot chase. The suspect attempted to elude our officers, but was apprehended in a nearby yard and was quickly placed under arrest.
Further investigation found an AK-47 assault rifle, along with two magazines and sixty rounds of 7.62 ammo was located in the residence. In addition, a second firearm loaded with 9mm ballpoint ammo and five 9mm hollowpoint ammo was found in the backyard.
The suspect was charged under state domestic violence laws with: simple assault, aggravated assualt, criminal mischief, threatening, and weapons offenses.
Our officers displayed courage, bravery, ingenuity and professionalism in bringing what could have been a tragic outcome to a safe resolution. Again, the safety of Orange families is a collaborative effort between residents, the community and our law enforcement officers. Orange residents are always encouraged to notify the OPD of any suspicious activity. Simply put, "If You See Something, Say Something".
Yours In Service,
Mayor Dwayne D. Warren, Esq.
