EAST ORANGE, NJ - Mayor Ted Green and members of the staff of the City of East Orange stood in solidity for women’s heart health by ‘Going Red’ on February 2, 2018. This demonstration of unity was prompted by a campaign created by the American Heart Association to dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease & stroke as the number one killer of women. The American Heart Association created Go Red For Women, a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), “Cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds”. However, “80% of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes”.

Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health. The hope was that by participating in the event on National Wear Red Day donations and educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health will increase.
