EAST ORANGE, NJ — For the seventh consecutive year, the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges—which includes the West Essex YMCA and six other branches—has received the top rating from the largest charity evaluator in the U.S. for its strong financial health and commitment to transparency and accountability.

The Metro YMCA serves an estimated 30,000 people through its seven branches: West Essex, East Orange YMCA, Fairview Lake Camps, South Mountain, Sussex County, Wayne and its newest branch, the YMCA of Greater Bergen County.

According to Charity Navigator President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Thatcher, only 4 percent of the charities evaluated have received seven consecutive four-star evaluations, indicating that the Metro YMCAs of the Oranges outperforms most other charities in America. He added that the designation “sets Metro YMCAs of the Oranges apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.”

“Our donors can be confident that the Metro YMCA uses their support prudently to carry out our mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, making communities stronger,” said Metro YMCA President and CEO Richard Gorab. “It’s an honor to again receive Charity Navigator’s top rating and be recognized for our careful stewardship of charitable donations.”

Charity Navigator evaluates the financial health, accountability and transparency of more than 8,000 organizations in the U.S. to help people decide which charities are worthy of their donations. Charity Navigator accepts no advertising or donations from the organizations it evaluates to ensure unbiased evaluations, and it doesn’t charge the public to access its data.
