East Orange Education Association Endorses Ted Green for Mayor

Executive Board & Rep Council Vote to Support Longtime Resident & Council President

EAST ORANGE, New Jersey, May 9, 2017 – The East Orange Education Association today endorsed Ted R. Green for Mayor of East Orange.  The endorsement came today at the meeting of the Executive Board and Rep Council at their headquarters on Central Avenue in East Orange.

Jacqui Gradington, President of the East Orange Education Association (EOEA) said, “Ted has shown us through his work on the City Council, particularly as President, that he cares about East Orange.  He is a product of the public-school system – so he not only understands the value of public education, he also supports the work of educators who everyday are changing the lives of the children they teach and mentor.”

According to the EOEA they have 1,100 members and represent all the teachers in the East Orange School District; and Guidance Counselors, Media Specialists, Psychologists, Nurses and all professional staff.    President Gradington said, “We just came through a nearly three-year contract negotiation and we will be entering negotiations again this December.”

President Gradington said, “We are concerned about the influx of charter schools in East Orange.”  She also referenced the Board of Education honoring their responsibilities particularly in the areas of racial, social justice and most importantly providing students with resources to ensure they receive “a 21st century education.”

Ms. Gradington said the EOEA Board voted to endorse Ted at their recent meeting and today the Rep Council supported the nomination.  There are approximately 50 members of the Rep Council with at least two Reps coming from each school in the district.

Green said, “I am honored and humbled that you are endorsing me today.”  “Most importantly for me is that I am a product of the East Orange School District and that my mother and father spent the majority of their careers in public education.”  Green added that for him, “school educators are the foundation upon which our communities are built and that teachers are an important part of the success or failure of our children.”  He said, “Let me be honest – for me, this is all about the kids.”  Green said he has spent his entire career focusing on providing a nurturing and educational environment for children to soar into productive adults – that’s why education is so important to him - and being Mayor is a way for him to continue his work to help young people.

Green also reminded the East Orange Education Association that he is an employee of the City -here to do the work of the people so he is open to listening and to using some of their ideas to improve East Orange for everyone; including educators and students.

Election Day is Tuesday, June 6, 2017.  For more information, visit the campaign on line at TedRGreen.com or on Facebook at tedgreenin17.
