In the last article, we discussed how to spot bad stress. Now we want to look at some of the best exercises for beating stress. These can be physical and mental exercises.

Physical Exercise

Physical exercise relieves stress, increases energy, and enhances mood. It can also help you lose weight and feel great. Any exercise is great if it gets you up and moving, and away from your desk at work or computer at home, but there are several that are particularly effective in terms of stress relief:

* Walking - Walking is a great workout and also a way to get away from what is stressing you. A nature walk can be very de-stressing and inspiring.

* Aerobics - These exercises give you more oxygen, for more brain power. Try cycling, spinning, dancing, and swimming.

* Kickboxing - This is great for letting out your frustrations on an inanimate object, and can get you toned and trim quickly.

* Tai Chi - The slow, methodical movements and the need for balance and stability can be very relaxing and give you better focus and clarity of mind.

* Yoga - Yoga is great for mind, body and spirit. The poses, called asanas, can improve relaxation and focus. Flow yoga can give you a really good physical workout. Yoga also contains mental exercises, usually meditation. 

Mental Exercise 

When we are under stress, it is sometimes tough to think clearly. The mind becomes so focused on the problem that it can be difficult to think of anything else. Thoughts and feelings about being trapped in the bad situation can often prevent people from taking the action steps they need to relieve the stress and get back on the track to success. Here are a few mental exercises that can help.

* Meditation - It can calm the mind and put your worries into perspective.

* Mindfulness meditation - This is a certain type of meditation in which you take a few moments to "live in the now." You don’t dwell on the past, or worry about the future. You just focus for a few minutes on what you are doing: standing, sitting, washing dishes and so on. 

* Visualization - A lot of people who worry about the future picture a disaster. Why not visualize success instead? Consider creating a vision board of what success means to you.

* Meditation with visualization - It can help to think about a place, real or imagined, that you can "go to" for a few moments mentally whenever things start to get stressful. Download photos of your "happy place/s" and keep them near your work station or places at home where you spend the most time.
