NEWARK, NJ - The Newark International Film Festival will feature Montclair local Junie Moon’s short film “Shed the Shame” at 12:00 pm on September 8th at Symphony Hall in Newark. According to Moon, this short film came out of years of working with women to reclaim their life from the inside to manifest outwardly.

Moon has helped people identify what they want, track where their inner self doubt and feelings of inadequacy come from and “help shift the old wiring so women feel empowered focused and able to truly be themselves”.

Moon claims women feeling shame about their bodies and having low self esteem limit relationships and life in general. When asked what prompted this journey Moon replied “Lots and lots of pain.” She laughed and explained, “I was a people pleaser. I was bullied terribly as a kid. I tried to fit in and be good enough by looking and acting a certain way.” She said as an adult it hurt her in many ways.

Moon did a live Internet show called  Life out loud with Junie Moon featuring leaders and transformational authors. One of her guests, Andy Golub is an international body painter. She realized he paints naked people, and she herself was eventually painted.

Moon said she came from a background of shame. She created the mini documentary called “Shed the Shame” to share her story of transformation.

The mini short is about how we are supposed to look to be considered beautiful, and how we are supposed to behave.

After she released the film she felt like she needed a next step. She signed with Crescendo Publishing. The book is called  “Loving the Whole Package - Shed the Shame and Live Life Out Loud”. Moon said, “Not only is it my story but I go deeply into the tools I used. In the book, “I share the journey and next steps.”

Her new book, coming out September 20th came out of that. “I was called to do this film to share. I was shocked by the response. People would come up to me and tears would come to people’s eyes saying, ‘I felt less shame and less alone after I saw your film’”

It teaches how to break the cycle of sabotage. She talks about Shadow Work® and invites people not only to her story but goes deeper. “I give access to even more tools outside the book to help them start doing the work to reclaim their life.”

Moon underwent many of Tony Robbins programs and incorporates the skills she learned in her work but mainly Shadow Work whose founder wrote the foreword of her book and trusted her to take his life work and write a book about it.

Apparently the issue of body image does not only affect women. Moon described how men have also been judged and often feel their perception of women’s beauty is framed by the underlying narrative. “So many men reached out to me having the same issues but also how they have been hurt by the programming where they think beauty looks a certain way and limits how they act and feel toward women.”

When asked what she would tell a teenage girl who might not have the opportunity to read the book or see the film, Moon answered, “Question the messages that you are receiving from the media, from the culture, why do you believe what you believe about yourself?”
