EAST ORANGE, NJ — The City of East Orange will rename the corner of Main and Halsted Streets in honor of the late community leader and nationally-renowned pastor Bishop Limmie Nathaniel Forbes on Thursday, Thursday, October 24 at 12:00 PM.
Until his death on May 23, 2019, Bishop Forbes was the longest tenured senior pastor of any Christian church in East Orange, serving Faith Temple Free Will Baptist Church #1 for almost 60 years.
After establishing Faith Temple No. 1 in East Orange in 1959, Pastor Forbes established Faith Temple No. 2 in 1962, now in Capitol Heights, MD. In 1978, he also established Faith Temple No. 3 in St. Paul, North Carolina. In 2005, he established Faith Temple No. 1 and 2 Extension Church, located in Wilson, North Carolina; with early morning worship services held on fourth Sundays monthly.
Beyond his many pastoral accomplishments, Bishop Forbes is remembered for his community outreach efforts, especially his annual breakfast where he personally cooked for hundreds of East Orange men in attendance.
