EAST ORANGE, NJ - In what undoubtedly was the highest attended Mayoral Swearing-In Ceremony ever, former City Council President Ted Green was ceremoniously sworn in to serve as the 14th Mayor of the City of East Orange. Dignitaries too numerous to name from all across the State were in attendance to witness and support the Mayor’s swearing-in. In addition multitudes of City staff, residents and well-wishers flocked to the venue simply to be part of the festivities.

The attendees filled both the 800 seat and 400 seat auditoriums at the Cicely Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts. The latter, was used as an ‘overflow’ room to watch the proceedings via live videotape.

The Swearing-In Ceremony was coupled with the City Council’s Reorganization Meeting, where new city appointments, including the Green administrative team were announced.

Joining Mayor-Elect Green in taking the oath of office were newly-elected members of the East Orange City Council: Bergson Leneus, the city’s first Haitian American councilperson, who will replace the Third Ward seat held by Mayor-Elect Green; two-term First Ward Councilman Christopher James; two-term Second Ward Councilman Romal Bullock; two-term Fourth Ward Councilwoman Tyshammie Cooper; and fourth-term Fifth Ward Councilwoman Alicia Holman.
