(ORANGE, NJ) - Thursday, March 26, we reported where the Orange School Board of Education was offering free grab and go meals for students. Now, we are updating this article to include an announcement of a change in locations and the relaxing of pickup times that were previously done based on last name.
Starting Monday, March 30, 2020, families will be able to pick up food at any of the revised district locations during the hours of 7:30 AM- 9:30 AM. In a Facebook message dated March 27, the Orange Public School District reported: "The District will condense the number of locations for Grab and Go Meals, beginning Monday, March 30. Students may pick up their breakfast and lunch bags from any of the sites listed below. Special thanks to the Chartwells Food Services staff, the District security team, and our custodial workers for their support in this process. We appreciate all of your efforts!"
- Lincoln Ave. School, located at 216 Lincoln Ave, City of Orange, NJ 07050
- Scholars Academy, located at 268 Capuchin Way
- Forest Street School, located 651 Forest Street
- Heywood Avenue School, located at 421 Heywood Avenue
- Lincoln Avenue School, 216 Lincoln Avenue
- Oakwood Avenue School, located at 135 Oakwood Avenue
- Park Avenue School, located at 231 Park Avenue
- Rosa Parks Community School, located at 369 Main Street
The following schools will no longer be sites available for pickup: Newcomers, Orange Early Childhood Center, Orange Preparatory Academy, and Orange High School
In a letter from Dr. Gerald Fitzhugh, II, Orange Superintendent of Schools he stated, "once students retrieve their breakfast and lunch, they must return home and work diligently on their distance learning activities. This is still considered a school day and must be treated as such. It is necessary to be proactive instead of reactive."
