The City’s award winning Summer Food Program hosted 5 kick-off events, one in each of the City’s wards, and was lauded for the largest participation in the County. Just last month, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) presented the City with the USDA Champion Award, for the second year in a row. Student Ambassadors gave peer mentoring to children in the program, and marketed the program through word of mouth. “We took this initiative on as a campaign to inform our residents of the food program and the benefits to our City’s youth,” said Mayor Taylor. He went onto say that “ the campaign included major marketing practices which included but was not limited to Facebook, the City’s website, banners in all five of the City’s ward and even a Teen Media Camp YouTube commercial that received over seven thousand hits.” East Orange leads Essex County, the most populous county in the state in servicing the most eligible children for this program.
The Run will kick off on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. and starting point the Paul Robeson Stadium, 116 Hamilton Street, East Orange, New Jersey.
