(EAST ORANGE, NJ) East Orange Fire Department members of the fourth tour, Robert Spriggs, Ernest Cooke, Mark Gaeta, and Fire Alarm Operator Vhaashtay Ra El won two out of four categories at the 2020 “Garden State Cooked and Uncorked” culinary competition.
Sponsored by the NJ State Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, Cooked and Uncorked is considered to be the premier fire department cooking competition in New Jersey. The event consists of three main categories: Firehouse Cooking, Gourmet Cooking, and Desert. The contest is judged by community giants such as former professional athletes, elected officials, and radio personalities.
As an added flare (pun intended), those in attendance also had an opportunity to vote for their favorites. The department with the most votes from the crowd won “The People's Choice" award.
The EOFD took first place in both the People's Choice and the Gourmet Choice awards.
In addition to being fun, this event showcased local food and beverage businesses who offered guests a taste of diverse New Jersey cuisines and plentiful beer and cocktails.
All proceeds from the evening went to NJFMBA Foundation and the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation.
Great work EOFD!
