(EAST ORANGE, NJ) - Popular Pastor of Messiah Baptist Church in East Orange, Dana Owens, and First Lady Shalonda Bayless Owens, shared a public testimony about how they made it through their Coronavirus sickness and quarantine. Known for telling it like it is during practical down to earth sermons, they hope sharing their experience will encourage people during these very uncertain times.

In an April 2, 2020, Facebook post, First Lady Shalonda began with a Biblical scripture from John 11:4 (NIV), "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."

The First Lady went on to say:

"March 17, 2020; St. Patrick's Day. My last day at work due to closure. My hubby Dana came home with symptoms of Coronavirus-- fever & body aches that would last approximately 10 days. I would join him 5 days later with symptoms of my own (mine only lasted 2 days). We were immediately quarantined by our Doc & Yes; we've both tested positive.

I was overwhelmed having to take his temperature every hour & having to keep a log for the Doc. He was worried about me & my symptoms as I tried to convince him that I'd be fine; that he was fairing much worse.

All the while he'd get out the bed, make a video for an online Service or Bible Study & get back to bed; & I'd be taking cat naps, at #ClubQuarantine, enjoying IG concerts, praying, reading my bible, dispensing meds & hot liquids while laughing at Homeschool posts & Tick Tock dances--Anything keep my mind off the growing number of fatalities. NO TV. We needed hope.

This is what the Coronavirus cycle looks like for many. You don't always get to self-isolate. It happens so fast-- just like everyday life was moving prior to this pandemic. You just have to press through, stay positive, don't panic & pray continually.

We are both doing much better & FULLY understand that we could have lost our lives. This is why I am now sharing our experience & would like to encourage you with this:

YOUR PERSONAL relationship with God (whatever this looks like for you) is the MOST IMPORTANT relationship you will ever have in this life. It will carry you though some indescribable highs & lows. It will guide you through fears & give you the faith to keep pressing forward. It will help you understand that God's Grace is the ONLY reason you are still alive & it will give you a purpose beyond yourself!

Please Stay Home. Be Good to Others. Let Go of ALL Petty Grievances & Pray for those who risk their lives daily to save ours. Be Well & God Bless!🙏🏽"
