The parents and families of people with disabilities will engage in the “Fourth Annual Labor Day Walk for Citizens with Disabilities” at the Rutherford Labor Day Street Fair on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016.

It is the position of many who will participate in the walk that people with disabilities are “second class citizens” who are denied their civil, human and due process rights.

People with disabilities are often denied the opportunity for appropriate housing, healthcare, employment and community acquiescence.

The families will assemble at the corner of Ames Ave. and Park Ave. in Rutherford at 11:00 am, when the march will begin. At the event, the parents and families will be available to discuss their concern about what they believe to be dwindling resources and a weakened public policy regarding the quality of life for people with disabilities.

The Annual marchers have included United States Senator Corey Booker (Pictured Below at the 2013 Labor Day Walk), United States Congressman Bill Parcells (Pictured Below at the 213 Labor Day Walk), Assemblyman Gary Schaer, Assemblywoman Marlene Caride, State Senator Joe Vitale, the Freeholder Boards from several Counties and local elected officials, and a host of advocates for people with special needs (Pictured below at the 2013 Labor Day Walk).

All advocates for children and adults with special needs are encouraged to walk with us on Monday, September 5, 2016.
